The Furnishings Collection
Walnut armchair, probably Knonauer Amt, from mill at Hausen am Albis, dated 1704.
In sheer volume, this
collection contains the largest number of objects of any collection in
Switzerland. It comprises bourgeois
furniture from the Early Modern period until the present day as well as furnishings from abbeys and church
paraphernalia, particularly from the Late Gothic and Renaissance periods. A group of painted rustic objects enjoys a place of
honour among the cabinets and chairs, and a wide range of items for general
everyday use are joined by various special creations for particular purposes,
such as birthing chairs, prie-dieus, dressing tables, vanities and strongboxes. An impressive array of furnishings from the recent
past has been assembled; of particular note are the many valuable love boxes
and coffers.
