Archaeometry

Analysis with the Raman spectrometer
Analysis with the Raman spectrometer

Archaeometry assists archaeologists in the systematic, in-depth examination of objects and groups of objects with an eye to determining such things as means of production, provenance, and materials used. Archaeologists can test their hypotheses and conclusions on the basis of the results and interpretations produced in the laboratory, and thus in part confirm them.

Recently, for example, the lab performed comprehensive investigations of Roman bronzes and writing implements from Augusta Raurica.
